Vintage Russell-Burdsall & Ward Wooden Box

SKU: #
Vagabond Vintage

Product Description

Vintage Russell - Burdsall and Ward Wooden Box This box was purchased at the Brimfield Antiques Show in Massachusetts, and it a vintage nut and bolt box from the most famous company in the metal fasteners business - Russell, Burdsall & Ward (RB &W). It contained over 100 pounds of nuts, bolts, screws etc and was shipped from their Port Chester, NY plant. This is an early wood Advertising crate and has a nice primitive distressed look. lt is in good antique condition with some chipped off pieces of wood and a split through one of the sides as if it was cut, but the box has good integrity. There are nice stenciled graphics on two sides. Early roots are mid-1800s of this company, as founders created and patented ways to make screws, nuts and bolts by manufacturing, instead of hand-made blacksmith screws and fasteners. Provenance of this box is Circa 1918-1925, so it may be 100 years old. The company had its "Empire" brand and trademark established in the late 19th century, but really came together in 1907, based in Rock Falls, Illinois. In 1908 RB&W began to concentrate on the development of fasteners for the automotive industry. By 1924, the Company’s product line included 20,000 varieties of Bolts and Nuts and 1,800 employees. The Empire Brand and Trademark appears in the center of this box on both long sides. Dimensions are: 27" long x 15.5" wide x 10" tall high. The lid was pried off and discarded long ago.
