Product Description

Collectible Vintage Japanese Tea Box Metal Lined Crate

This is a pretty rare Circa 1920s - 1940 Tea shipping crate that was hand made in Japan out of wood, decorative paper, and a complete metal-tin-lead lining on the inside with a hinged lid.

From the "Iris Tea" company by Yappahoo Nippon, imported into Flint, Michigan for grocers and retailers. Typically these shipping crates were opened and used to display both loose tea pouches and inner boxes of tea for advertising, and for enhanced sales of authentic tea from Japan.

This particular crate held 40, 8 ounce boxes of tea and was imported by the Moffet Grocery. As photographed there is decorative paper on all sides excepting the bottom. The flowers on all sides are the same flower, a lily.

Dimensions are 15" long X 11.25" tall or high x 11.25" wide. The depth is also a little over 11" and the lid stays up on its own for store display or resale.
