Vintage Apothecary Wooden Scale Case

SKU: #
Vagabond Vintage

Product Description

1950s Apothecary Wooden Scale Case

Purchased in a lot of antiques from Delhi, India - this is a circa 1950s antique scale case with a partial working scale. This was typically used by an apothecary for measuring grams and ounces of various medicinal powders, but was also used for gemstones and precious metal weighing. There are lots of interesting brass workings inside the case. The front of this case has a sliding glass door that lifts up. The bottom feet are adjustable to achieve balance accuracy. The wood appears to be solid teak. There are two side glass panel doors that also open, one has the original brass knob that latches. Some dents, dings and scratches are evident due to the 50+ year old wood and scale. There is an adjustment knob on the side, presumably to move the missing weigh dish. There are no counterweights or pendulum. At the bottom, the two front feet are adjustable for leveling with only a 3rd tripod foot at the back. There is also a middle center knob that raises and lowers the scale assembly on its axis.

Dimensions are: 15" wide X 19" tall or high and 9.5" deep.
