Product Description

Antique 1913-1914 Pharmacy / Apothecary Ledger Book

This is a rare find purchased at the Brimfield Antiques Show years ago, and used on display in our showroom, now for sale here. There is no cover to the book, but it is still bound on the edges with stitching and fabric. Some of the 1914 prescriptions indicate the doctor or pharmacy has "telephone" access with 4 digit phone number. In Feb. 1914 commercial access to telephones by the Bell Companies (AT&T) completed the Boston-Washington underground cable. Over 80 pages of actual 1913 to 1914 prescriptions as hand written in old ink pen by various doctors and pharmacies, mostly in Massachusetts. An original ink blotter card is included with advertising from an old bank in Needham, MA. The 80+ pages are actually two-sided so you will have 160+ pages to view. Fun to page through as several of the "drugs" are named differently, and as related to illegal things now like morphine and codeine in their oldest compounded forms. A savvy store owner could also frame each page and resell as framed authentic antiques. We included one with a mat board and frame for an example of this idea. Dimensions are: 17.5" tall or high (each page) and 11.5" wide. The book with no cover and remaining binding on the side is just under 2" thick. Severe yellow to brown edges are throughout this book as to be expected from a 105+ year old found object.
